Hello paranoid spoilsport.

Should we send chill pills, a yoga mat, or some good pot?

But open discussion of illegal activities is so much fun! Come on! Lets all throw some bricks and bottles at cops! Or at least swipe their stupid hats and give them noogies. I'm becoming more and more a fan of bank-robbery (I think it would be funny to just demand everyone's fancy pen rather than cash).

As the word "culture" suggests, it has to do with creating habits of behavior. Sure, this thing might be a joke, but what if you happen to become accustomed to joking aout serious things?
Calling people out when they do iffy things is an important facet of a security culture.
Also, you have to recognize that because of this website you wield influence Without consistency from you in terms of security, are you certain that everyone who reads responses putting down those calling you out will be keen enough to know the difference between joking and serious?
And you can send me some of the good pot too....

I think having room for humor is important. If you haven't noticed, every single one of these infoshop polls is meant to provide some comic relief (yes, even if they're about a serious topic). We don't all have to be super-serious and composed all time. Anyway; Never trust a revolutionary who's afraid to tell jokes [or dance]!

I think that there is a false dichotomy between "fighting the cops" and "writing letters to congressmen (or in my case, members or parliament)." Are these really the only two options: insurrection or reform?

Don't get me wrong, I have no sympathy for police, especially riot police, or the capitalist state that they serve and protect. But I fear that the focus of activity on street fighting without popular education and organizing, will ultimately lead to further marginalization of the anarchist left. I suppose this is also goes along with my own view of left radicalism as more about challenging illegitimate power structures and building constructive alternatives, rather than simply breaking shit. You can't blow up a social relationship, right?

Having some experience with anarchist organizations outside of North America, I think that we face some unique obstacles to organizing (excluding Mexico) including, but not limited to, a sense of frontier-style individualism; an incredibly powerful right-wing with a system perceived by many as legit or "natural"; and a radical politics tied closely to counter-cultural "scenes" often to the exclusion of people of colour, the working poor etc.

A bit of a rant, but, again, my two cents.

Also, fuck the police. Hehe....

Um, what does this actually accomplish?

Does it ever break up police formations? Does it ever drive off police attacks or
push open police lines? Does it ever help the people at the front? I'm not saying
that there aren't situations where this is appropriate. Mebbe there are.

This question isn't meant to be about a tactic. It's more of a catharsis. It's about the desire to throw something at the cops. Pure and simple. Like wanting to key someones SUV. Not everything you do has to be a tactic, or aimed at accomplishing some practical purpose. Sometimes, "product is the excrement of action" [crimethinc]

Yeah, this is probably re-inforcing negative stereotypes of anarchists. It's something I could see shocking people who visit the site for the first time. My two cents, for what its worth.

- getting arrested and jailed, and thus losing your ability to participate in the struggle against state-capitalism?

You can get arrested and jailed for anything. What's your point? Think we should write more letters to our Congressmen?

When people in the rear throw things, people in the front face added risks. Before
one person, or one group, chooses to impose such risks upon other people, they
ought to ask what their means will accomplish and whether other means can
accomplish the same or greater things and impose fewer risks on others.
Emotional relief for you in the rear can bring severe injury for those in the front;
on J20 some of you threw things and ran away; I was beaten and gassed.

Chistmas eve in Houston(TX where it is hot as shit all the time) :

Food Not Bombs is serving under the Pierce Elevated freeway at Main street downtown. On the other side of a wooden fence is a McDonalds. This Xmas eve it is actually cold enough that it starts snowing. A snowball fight begins between the kids and homeless folks eating and sharing under the bridge. Someone has noticed that a snowball fight has started in the Mickey D's parking lot: between a young couple and a constable. All of a sudden a dozen kids and homless folks come sweeping from behind the fence on to the Main street side walk and into the parking lot pinning the cop down behind his squad car. At one point he peeks up and is hit square in the chest by a snowball. The homeless cheer! The cop calls the game off and beats a hasty retreat, getting in his car and driving west on Gray street.
