Maybe thirtyfive years ago that nationalist talk was a necessary way of protecting incipiently radical black formations from be being overwhelmed by white liberal co-optation.

But let's get real. Let's address the reality of TODAY. Things have changed a lot since the mid- to late-60s. Different questions confront those who seek radical political change.

Particularly relevant in this regard, the class chasm within black America is much greater than it was four decades ago. To talk of a monolithic "black community" was always problematic; now it's just plain ridiculous. The same is true for white America. Conditions for the white working class have worsened considerably since the 60s.

We also can't forget that the numbers of people of "mixed-race" have increased massively; this throws an additional monkey-wrench in race nationalist formulations.

There is no one "black mind" that has to be sealed-off from outside contamination and "made up." That's a fascist notion. Why would you want to (implicitly) endorse such an idea?
