we had some great solidarity between various queer/lgbttiq groups and support groups. the anti-capitalist contingent, organized by the Chicagoland Anarchist Network (which Midwest Unrest is a part of), and especially the Chicago Anti-Bashing Network (with both moderate and leninist, wealthy and working class gays and lesbians in it) have done a lot of great collaboration.

On Sunday, June 27, in Chicago\'s Boys Town neighborhood, the Gay Pride Parade was set to begin. An anti-capitalist contingent initiated by groups within the Chicagoland Anarchist Nertwork (CAN) was subversely participating too.

A religious extremist group of heterosexist fanatics invaded the parade, attacking the marchers. In the ensuing moments, police arrested three participants in the anti-capitalist contingent, each of whom were later charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault on a \"peace\" officer and resisting arrest, and one count each of misdemeanor reckless conduct. To note that none of the bigots were arrested.

On Monday, June 28, at a 1:00PM hearing, bond was set for two of the prisoners at $20,000 each, and the other\'s bond was set at $30,000 -- 10% of each was required to walk, putting the total at $7,000.

The two younger hostages were released after area activists paid the state-instituted ransoms, but funds are needed. The last arrestee has ben physically abused multiple times since his arrest, including beatings in the first detention facility at Addison and Halsted, and further bare-knuckle fist beatings to the head and chest in three more instances at Cook County Jail. He is a man of 51 years and has complained since the beatings of chest pains, sores, increasingly difficult breathing and mild dizziness.

After he is released, he will be met with food, hugs and required medical attention. The charges are expected to carry over to a trial, in which case there will be many court fees along the way.

about the $5,500 that has been raised. that is actually a high number based upon promised donations which have not yet materialized. we have for sure spent $4,000 to get the first two arrestees out of jail, and they are currently home safe and sound. there is little more than $350 in cash to start the bond for the third one, whose bond is set at $3,000 to be paid to walk. anyone that knows anything about fundraising should know that promises mean nothing until the money is in your hands, and there are few times that this is as important as in this case, where cash means brutalized people getting out of jail.

On Sunday, June 23, at 9:30AM, a Queer Anarchist contingent -- a chapter of the Chicagoland Anarchist Network (CAN) -- and its supporters, met at the Lawrence and Broadway intersection and began a feeder march as a creative resistance to homo-capitalism. Its destination and message was directed to the Gay Pride Parade organizers, where the continget\'s intent was to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion -- \"which was a riot, not a marketing opportunity!\" -- as well as to protest the commercialization and homogenization of the queer community.

The feeder march proceeded through the Uptown area to protest its rapid gentrification, then Wrigleyville for both queer visibility and as a statement to the one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in all of Chicago for queers and transvestites to be in.

The destination point -- Clark and Halsted -- was reached around 11:30AM.

Shortly after the Gay Pride Parade got started, a group of religious fundemantalist heterosexists was seen approaching the intersection, carrying anti-gay signs and banners, the most extreme ones reading \"God hates fags\" and \"AIDS is a cure, not a disease.\" This group physically and verbally assaulted the Anarchist contingent -- they threw punches and swung poles at the marchers. Instead of protecting the Anarchist group against the hate crime perpetrated by the religious homophobes, the police randomly attacked and arrested three of the activists. All three were injured during the arrests.

Other activists were also attacked by the police, a fact confirmed by eyewitnesses to the incidents and by pictures of the injuries. A police officer, while attempting to punch one of the participants in the face missed, and punched him in the upper arm. Another marcher was thrown to the ground and sustained injuries to both legs.

While in detention at the Halsted and Addison police station, officer Angola B. forced one of the arrestees inside a bathroom, where he procedeed to beat him. The arrestee returned to the holding office with swells on his face.

Early this morning, while entering the Cook County Courtroom, a box of matches was found in his pocket. He was punched in the face several times. About 5 to 10 minutes later, although he was complying with all of the requests put forth by the police, an officer, using the pretense that he was not moving fast enough, hit him with his fists in the face and chest area. This was apparently still not enough show of force and intimidation on the part of the processing officers, and he was taken outside the temporary holding cell, but in a visible area, where he was hit again.

This ongoing abuse of power by the Chicago Police Department is condemnable at best, and criminal at worst. The CPD should know that the community is keeping a close eye on their abhorrent treatment of prisoners. WE ARE WATCHING YOU!

Three Arrested Following Gay Pride Parade

Suspects Face Felony Charges In Alleged Assaults On Police

CHICAGO -- Three people arrested for allegedly assaulting police officers during a fight near the annual Gay Pride Parade Sunday were scheduled to appear for a bond hearing Monday.

Jeremy Hammond, Neal Rysdahl and Robert Bernstein were all scheduled to appear at 1 p.m. in Central Bond Court, according to police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer.

Police arrested the three men near the parade at 12:20 p.m. Sunday, when gay rights and anti-gay groups clashed near Clark and Halsted streets, according to Town Hall District Lt. Robert Stasch.

They were all charged with one count each of resisting arrest, aggravated battery to a police officer and reckless conduct, Greer and police News Affairs Officer JoAnn Taylor said. Taylor listed the location of the arrests at 3041 N. Halsted St.

All of the charges are felonies, except the reckless conduct charges, which are misdemeanors, according to Greer.

Hammond, 19, of Chicago, was accused of repeatedly refusing to stay out of the street, and cited for throwing a bottle into the crowd which struck a police officer, Taylor said.

Rysdahl, 51, of Chicago, was accused of engaging in a physical fight with anti-gay protesters, and of punching an officer who was in the process of arresting another offender, according to Taylor.

Bernstein, 17, of Oak Park, was accused of shoving another officer who was also in the process of arresting an offender, Taylor said.

The three men were all members of the Gay Anarchists Extreme Group, Greer said. She did not know if the group was pro- or anti-gay rights.

Two police officers suffered only minor bruises and abrasions during the brawl, and they did not go to the hospital, Stasch said.

One of the officers was splattered with a liquid substance, but the type of the substance was undetermined, he said.

All three were accused of resisting arrest because they reportedly struggled against being placed into handcuffs, Taylor said.

They were scheduled to appear in North Felony Court on July 6 at 9 a.m., she said.

When we need to raise money we hold hottie carwashes.

The ladies in our little posse go out in wife beaters and daisy dukes and wash cars for 3 - 4 hours.

Ten of them can make $500 in 3 - 4 hours easy in a good location. Obviously you need a good location and a cadre of women that are amiable to the idea but lets face it, sex sells, even sexy carwashes.
