Terms like "superpower" and "world war" are academic, but "postmodern" isn't? That term is purely academic, and it's a lot of eyes-glazing-over bullshit.

To answer that one question, yes, in fact, the EU is a superpower. I never said the US was the only superpower so don't call me an imperialist, fuckhead. Superpowers are by nature imperialist. I'm not endorsing them asshole, I'm simply saying they exist.

And no, the war on terror isn't going to play out like those others because it's not a war. It's a series of wars that are usually better described as massacres.

First, yes they have. Vietnam was pretty fucking messy and spilled over into other countries. Second, the US isn't going to send troops into Sudan, Somalia, Syria, Iran or anywhere else for a very long time. Unless there's a draft, which there probably won't be. They won't send troops into Sudan because they don't need to, the UN will go in if anyone. They won't send troops into Somalia because they can just fund and supply Ethiopia. They won't send troops into Syria because all the tough talk on Syria is just that, talk, and Syria will do anything to keep out of a war (and so will the US because they know that the mess in Iraq will only be repeated by the increasly radical Islamist presence in Syria, the same reason they don't push for elections there). They won't send troops into Iran because the only way to be successful there would be an air or nuclear campaign, either one ending very messy for the US troops in Iraq and for Israel (who will get fucked up by the barrage of missiles that Iran has been stockpiling for 25 years). And they won't send troops anywhere else because Iraq has gone too badly for them in terms of troops morale, recruitment, and popular opinion at home for them to do much more than maintain the occupation for a few more years, which will be a challenge enough, and then not send troops anywhere in large numbers for at least a decade because people won't be cool with it. Yes the state can do whatever it wants, but the state doesn't function without a us and you can only push people so far and they are stretched to the limit on that.

Okay, perhaps this is all semantics, but the world revolves around semantics. Don't call this World War 3 beacuse it makes it sound more profound than it actually is. And if this is so different than the other two, why group them together? This is business as usual, just all coming more closely together. Can't we pretend for a little bit

And Newt Gingrich is an idiot who knows nothing about anything. He sounds like he does sometimes, but the reason he's on Fox instead of Capital Hill is beacuse if anyone listened to him we might actually be in WWIII now.
