Denver O22 Reportback: Taking the streets to remember Marvin Booker

There are a couple of clarifications that need to be made about this article.

"Otherwise, the crowd was nearly entirely made up of street youth and other homeless people. The participation of liberals, non-profit organizers, radical collective house dwellers, and even other militant revolutionaries and most of Denver’s anarchists was visibly lacking from the event"

This statement is not entirely true. I would say it was quite diverse. There were alot of youth, but as far as the liberals, non profit organizers, anarchists, etc......I would say there were plenty of those.

"who were motivated more by hatred at their direct social conditions than any reading of political theory."

I agree that alot of people were motivated by hate, but it is important to note that there were people there who were motivated by LOVE. There were people there who did not agree with the violence or hateful attitudes and who also think that it is hypocritical to protest violence with violence.

No offense to your clarifications, but I truly think you weren't at the event being described in this article...

The march last OCTOBER was about 80 folks, with well over half being homeless kids. The amount of liberals or "progressives" in the march really couldn't even be counted on one hand.

Second, what "violence" are you describing? You were upset that folks put stickers of Marvin's face on a cop car and slashed some tires on that car? I don't recall (unfortunately) any police officers being hurt that night...

Have you ever been savagely attacked by the police? Have you had your daily existence marked by police terror? If not, then get off your moral high horse. To in anyway compare the totality of violence that the police inflict and protect with homeless kids redecorating cop cars and pulling trash cans into the street shows how much privilege you have in this society, and how your lifestyle is probably protected by the same cops.

The march this past Saturday that built off the momentum of O22 was even better and more militant. Folks are sick of waiting for some of the mainstream progressive peaceniks to organize around this issue. They want the cops out of their hoods NOW. And these ruptures signify that more than anything.

You also may be thinking of the march that happened this past weekend, especially with the timing of your comment. A great video of that action is available here:

And I would love to hear you try to offer your peaceful vibes to the cops if they ever do attack you... good luck.
