Food Not Bombs, Indymedia investigated by FBI

"We've kind of gathered up our skirts and pulled in," said Sarah Bardwell, who works for the American Friends Service Committee, a Quaker group. Along with some activist roommates, she has also volunteered for Food Not Bombs.

"In our house, we don't talk about politics anymore," Bardwell said. "There's been a toning down of everything we do."

This pisses me off more than the actual FBI spying. Activists who are cutting back on their activism because the FBI is engaged in the same old crap they've been doing for years? These activists are so paranoid that they aren't even TALKING about politics in their onw house?

What the fuck? Tens of thousand of Latinos filled the streets this weekend with mass protests. I'm sure that many of them have to worry about the real possibility of deportation and police harassment, but a bunch of anti-war activists are so paranoid about government spying that they can't talk about politics?

The best reaction to FBI spying is to give them the middle finger and continue with our activities. That's what I fucking do.

Nope. If you had read the news coverage you would know that the turnout was mostly helped by radio stations and other media outlets. The protests were not leftism as usual, although some leftist groups like ANSWER are desperately trying to profit off of this unrest.

If you don't like leftists, now would be a good time to expose ANSWER's opportunism on this issue to the broader movements.

Thanks for deleting my reply. Is saying all protests are leftists not good enough for the realm of opinion?

Thank you, Chuck. Well said. This kind of repression is nothing new. I remember my FNBs group and my house being under police surveillance back in the days when Clinton (a democrat) was president. Heck, when I read the books of old time anarchists like Goldman and Berkman, I see that they too were under alot of surveillance and faced alot of repression but that didn't stop them. In fact, it gave them even more reason to stand up and resist authority. This repression is no reason to be quiet and passive. It's just more reason to fight for our rights. If we let these government fear tactics scare us into submission, then the FBI wins. Fuck the FBI, Fuck the Police, fuck the government, and fuck authority. Stand up and fight.
