Yesterday just under 4000 demonstrators surrounded the Congress building in Madrid as part of the ongoing protests against austerity measures and unemployment (currently at 23%). The demonstration was just one of many across Spain witnessed over the past few weeks in the lead-up to a possible general strike in May, which will also see occupations and street protests.

Yesterday just under 4000 demonstrators surrounded the Congress building in Madrid as part of the ongoing protests against austerity measures and unemployment (currently at 23%). The demonstration was just one of many across Spain witnessed over the past few weeks in the lead-up to a possible general strike in May, which will also see occupations and street protests. The three videos, see above (apologies for its rough-cut jerkiness) and below, of what took place tell the story. Below, we also include, in full, the manifesto of those who initiated the action.

Note: Anonymous brought down the websites of Congress when a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack jammed the parliament’s servers.

On Thursday around 1,400 police were deployed to protect Parliament. Earlier, in dawn raids, police detained 15 people in Madrid: the police allegedly found flares and firebombs.
