Anti-Airport resistance, solidarity call

Earth First

In France a massive land squat against an airport project faces another week of evictions. Resistance and repression have been intense. Here are 2 calls for solidarity.

The happenings of the last couple of days on the zone of the proposed airport project, Notre-Dame-des-Landes, Vigneux de Bretagne, and other nearby places have made some waves. Since Tuesday, October 16, the militia of the state has taken over the whole zone in an attempt to take control. With helmets, shields, guns and batons on their belts, grenade launchers and teargas canisters in their hands, these mercenaries come from all over France to re-establish the capitalist order and re-affirm the strength of the centralized democratic state

Solidarity against the thirst for power

The happenings of the last couple of days on the zone of the proposed airport project, Notre-Dame-des-Landes, Vigneux de Bretagne, and other nearby places have made some waves. Since Tuesday, October 16, the militia of the state has taken over the whole zone in an attempt to take control. With helmets, shields, guns and batons on their belts, grenade launchers and teargas canisters in their hands, these mercenaries come from all over France to re-establish the capitalist order and re-affirm the strength of the centralized democratic state. They know their job well. Occupying the strategic crossroads, prevent people from moving around, doing identity controls, copying down license plate numbers, destroying everything outside of the limits they have defined, evicting those in a place where they have been asked to leave, repressing those opposed to the system.

This is nothing extraordinary, it’s shit but it’s an everyday occurence. What the forces of order have been doing in Notre-Dame-des-Landes is exactly the same thing that they do every other day of the year. Making ID controls in the ghettos of the poor, destroying traveler and Roma camps, terrorising migrants, protecting the interests of capital and the state abroad. However it’s not exactly the same thing. Because the middle classes are interested in some problems linked to the proposed airport project and the sympathy in general towards the struggle against the airport, the cops have decided to be a little careful about what they’re doing.

The past couple of days, we have felt surrounded. We have found that the problems that affect us, also affect a lot of other people. There have been solidarity actions and demonstrations because everywhere there are people oppressed by the same policies of urbanization, and state control of land and what happens there.

Lots of people have come to bring warm clothes and food, and when we go to the nearby towns, people come to ask for news and wish us luck. There have been demonstrations against the evictions in Notre-Dame-des-Landes in Nantes, Saint-Nazaire, Chateaubriand, Redon, Vannes, Poitiers, Rennes, La Roche sur Yon, Angers, Laval, Paris, Lille, Carcassonne, Lyon, Strasbourg and Saint Affrique.

In Couëron and Rennes, the town halls were tagged, and in Angers, La Roche sur Yon, Poitiers, Millau and Limoges, the Socialist Party offices were attacked.

In Metz, Vannes, and Valenciennes, actions were made at Vinci parking lots to pass people out for free, and diminish the amount of profits that Vinci makes off our backs. In Grenoble, 20 Vinci parking meters were destroyed.

In Dijon, the offices of the Socialist Party and Vinci were covered in used engine oil. In Brussels, rotten nettle juice was sent into a Vinci office by way of their mail slot.

In Toulouse, a brigade of clown activists staged an offensive operation at their local Vinci offices.

In the Cotentin region where there is a struggle against the construction of high tension electric lines, two pylons being built by Vinci were visited by metal saws.

In Grenoble and on the A7 highway between Marseilles and Lyon, banners were dropped against Vinci and their airport.

In Barcelona, an information evening was organized on the situation here.

From Chiapas and Atenco, regions in struggle in Mexico, solidarity communiques have been sent.

In Calais, the local No Border group also wrote a solidarity communique.

In Paris, a Vinci vehicle and also several vehicles of the socialist city government were vandalized. Also attacked was a piece of heavy equipment from the company Fondasol, who do soil sampling on the ZAD.

France Culture, a national radio station, was interrupted in their broadcasting offices by some camarades who read a text in support of the airport struggle.

This list is far from complete and every day it gets longer. Almost all these examples come from France, and it would be nice to see things kicking off in other places!

It’s really beautiful that we manage to put so much energy into action against the same project. We should not forget that while we face the violence of the state under the spotlight, thousands of others face the same violence without anyone else knowing. All over the world, the capitalist model forces people to leave the places where they live. Everywhere our spaces for living are controlled and managed for profit, in the interests of the powerful.

We are thinking of all the people evicted from France because they didn’t have the right papers, those rotting in the prisons of the State, for all the victims of colonialism, for the Roma people chased from town to town all over Europe, for those who are thrown out of their homes amoungst general indifference, for those who are thrown out of their neighborhoods by policies of "renovation" and gentrification, to all those in revolt who are hit hard by state repression.

France: La ZAD prepares for another week of eviction NON A LA AEROPORT

Zadiste | 28.10.2012 18:21

In La ZAD, a zone occupied to stop the construction of a new airport for Nantes, the eviction looks set to continue from tomorrow. La Saulce is now evictable and it is possible the police will also target some of the places that require special forces to evict treehouses and such. Callout for solidarity actions against VINCI, the company who will be constructing. Callout for people here to help. All means to increase awareness.

The police have been evicting la ZAD for two weeks now, only stopping for lunchbreak and the weekends. and the nights.

We are still expecting them to return tomorrow to continue. Theyve been passing by with the helicopter today, having a look around. Since Saturday night la saulce has become legally evictable. La secherie won an appeal in court, and is now not evictable till december, and la rosier also is not evictable til the middle of november.

But it seems likely they will come next week for the places they can already evict, and havent already, mostly la saulce, sabot, and the other cabins that dont have a real 'house' on the property.

There is a lot more info on the website http://www.zad.nadir.org if you dont read french you can change the langue to english. get in contact if you want to come over, or just arrive or do something in your place, the company which build the aeroport is called VINCI ( http://stopvinci.noblogs.org/ ) and they have many things everywhere.

They are also responsible for the destruction of the khimki forest ( http://www.khimkiforest.org/ ) in russia for the construction of a highway and the eviction of the protest camp there. There has already been a lot of stuff done to humiliate them in the last weeks it is very cheering.

Let everyone know.

The resistance wont end with eviction.

Need people to help with reoccupation.

Peace and love.
