Over the past several months we’ve seen an incredible burst of activity aimed at stopping gas drilling, mountaintop removal, and other forms of harmful resource extraction. In May, Butler County activists staged a hazmat suit-clad occupation of PA Representative and fracking cheerleader Brian Ellis’ office demanding that he be accountable to the Woodlands, a community in his jurisdiction who lost their water due to fracking. In June the Riverdale community near Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania held an encampment to protect against imminent eviction from their homes to make way for a water extraction site to service fracking. In July the Earth First! Rendezvous culminated in a double tree sit blockade of a drilling site on forestland, which halted operations for 12 hours. Later that month the Tour de Frack trekked from Butler, PA to Washington, DC culminating in a July 28 national anti-fracking demonstration.

As the Summer of Solidarity wraps to a close it’s clear that our work is not done.

The drillers won’t stop so we can’t stop! Through the fall and into the winter we need to continue to organize, to mobilize, and to resist harmful resource extraction in our region. Join the Shadbush Environmental Justice Collective for the Shalefield Justice Action Camp November 10-12 just outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

We’ll provide trainings on traditional non-violent direct action tactics, as well as workshops and discussions on the impacts of fracking and coal production in our region, research and media work, community organizing, and movement building. Action camps also provide an excellent opportunity to build community and solidarity among organizers throughout our region and beyond, and to celebrate the work we do and support each other in the struggle.

The camp will start early afternoon on Saturday, November 10 and conclude late afternoon on Monday, November 12 (Veteran’s Day). Food and housing (or camping if you prefer) camping will be provided. Check out http://www.ShadbushCollective.org for more details!
