SAC gets ambitious: 47.000 Swedish syndicalists in 2027?
The 30th congress of the Swedish SAC (Central Organization of the Workers of Sweden) has been dubbed "the looking to the future congress", and as might be guessed, the main questions facing the delegates are about with the future strategy of the SAC.
The SAC weekly Arbetaren ("The Worker") reports on one of the most important of the 40 proposals the delegates voted on: a proposed effort to increase the membership by 40.000 members in 15 years. The motion was carried after being met with approval by 2/3 of the attending LS's (local co-organizations) with some adjustment: amongst other things, a rewording pointing out students as important to a future membership base.
"We must regain our self-confidence. Being publicly visible is important, and a start is to make a clear statement that we exist, and that we are not going to give in", a delegate from Uppsala LS said." Aside from recruiting new members in the 35 largest Swedish cities, Ola Brunnström from the SAC working committee wants to focus on founding new local general membership branches. "The first steps in the creation of a new LS is all-important to the success of our effort. The participation of all LS's in developing the strategy will decide if this campaign will work out or not.
