Mount Kisco, NY August 8, 2012 — Douglas Kennedy is headed back to court for assaulting two Northern Westchester hospital nurses. Concerned nurses and friends will be there to speak out against workplace violence, this Thursday, August 9, at 6:00 p.m. outside of Mt. Kisco Justice Court, 40 Green St., Mt. Kisco, N.Y.

In January, Kennedy was caught on security camera grabbing one nurse and kicking another to the ground.

Northern Westchester maternity nurses were following hospital protocol when they attempted to stop Kennedy from leaving the hospital with his newborn son, who had not yet been discharged.

While the law allows for a felony charge of assault, Kennedy is only being charged with harassment – a misdemeanor. Members of the New York State Nurses Association will be available to discuss their concerns about violence against nurses and inform the public about the law making it a Class D felony to assault a nurse while on duty.

The New York State Nurses Association is the voice for nursing in the Empire State. With more than 37,000 members, it is New York’s largest professional association and union for registered nurses. The association represents registered nurses, and some all-professional bargaining units, in New York and New Jersey. It supports nurses and nursing practice through education, research, legislative advocacy, and collective bargaining.
