New South Carolina Laws requires Subversive Groups to Register with the State

News Archive

As if the state of South Carolina didn't have enough of a reputation, recent legislation now requires subversive groups to register with the government. A registration fee of $5 and the necessary paper work is now required for all groups seeking to overthrow the government. The law states that "every member of a subversive organization, or an organization subject to foreign control, every foreign agent and every person who advocates, teaches, advises or practices the duty, necessity or propriety of controlling, conducting, seizing or overthrowing the government of the United States ... shall register with the Secretary of State."

The new legislation can be reviewed here: http://www.scstatehouse.gov/code/t23c029.htm

For those of you in SC who wish to register the form can be found here:

South Carolina is a large pimple on our collective taint.

Think about not doing it.  The penalties are stiff (25,000 and/or 10 years), but it sets a bad precident (the first thing that the nazis did was to require jews to register with the government.) Besides, I wonder how this would stand up in court.  This would be especially true if you maintained that you are just a group of friends and have no formal name or structure, which is easy to do.

Nobody is going to register, except as a joke. This whole law is laughable. Anybody who got prosecuted for violating the law would win their case easily, since the law is clearly unconstitutional even by mainstream political standards.

I'd like to know which person proposed this hilarious piece of crap. What a fucking moron! Probably listens to Glenn Beck constantly.

Their trying to run the F.B.I. out of business...

Look, we don't use our silly nicknames for our sake, we don't go out of our way to post on someone else's computers for our sake, they gotta do their homework to catch us...

And yes, besides.. who uses traditional organizational modes anymore anyway?

If anybody wants to have some fun making a mockery of this idiotic law, how about a campaign to get South Carolina-based Tea Bagger and Republican groups registered? If anybody has been talking recently about overthrowing the U.S. government, you gotta start with the Tea Baggers, Dittoheads and Becktards.

Everyone should just come up with 15 bucks and three made up subversive groups.  Get enough people and they'll figure SC is some revolutionary hotbed and send all the cops there.

Anarchist groups don't really fit that criteria anyways, though I wouldn't really expect a politician or judge to understand that kind of nuance.

"...every person who advocates...the necessity of controlling...the government of the United States..."

This would not include every single mainstream Democrat and Republican? Never mind the Tea Baggers.

If they expect genuine subversives to present themselves for licensing, good luck. It's redolent of the Marijuana Tax Stamps. Though not widely known, one can apply to the U.S. Government and pay taxes on illegally trafficked mari-hootch to avoid IRS prosecution. All one needs to do is to identify oneself as an illegal trafficker of dope. Oops!

what if people just made up a bunch of groups and registered them? might be a waste of five dollars tho'

still some creative media stunt here could get anarchists a good amount of press

The form requires you to have a leader of the organization, and for the leader to sign it.  So its impossible for anarchists to comply.

If I were going to make up a group and register it, I'd put down the Continental Army led by George Washington.
