WASHINGTON - The District of Columbia has agreed to pay $450,000 to eight anti-war protesters who were interrogated after demonstrations at the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in 2002.

The protesters claimed D.C. police arrested them in part because they were wearing black, a color associated with anarchists. They said that after their detention, they were interrogated by the FBI about their beliefs.

Authorities claimed for years that the incident never happened. Recently uncovered police logs confirmed it.

As part of the settlement announced Tuesday, police will have to formally approve and document any effort by federal authorities to gain access to detained protesters.

D.C. Attorney General Peter Nickles says he hopes to settle three other cases stemming from the 2002 protests by Thanksgiving.

This is the second time there has been a substantial payment made to people arrested at the 02 IMF/World bank protest. The last time it was much more money to many more people, and I never heard of any of it filtering in to anarchist projects. I don't know, I was also arrested at "The Peoples Strike" and as soon as there was talk of large settlements I knew if I got any it was all going to "the cause". I just assumed everyone felt the same way, lets at least get infoshop payed up for a year or two people.

If anybody getting this settlement is a regular reader of Infoshop, we always appreciate donations. It would be nice to upgrade our servers and perhaps spend some money on original journalism.

the people who are getting this money can do whatever they want with it.
That's what you get for attending protests and not being scared of arrest.
pay attention everyone: arrests at summits may make you rich!

as far as what folks did with the money they got from the previous larger settlement, it was their money to do with what they wanted. I'm assuming though, that those who were still active in the movement used it for good causes. justs cuz you dn't know about it doesn't mean it didn't happen.
i used my check to pay for legal expenses for a different activist-related court case.

if you want money to go to good things, go get arrested for some BS at the next summit!

I should note that Infoshop has gotten some nice donations over the years from activists who have won court settlements.

Thanks!
