Robocop could join UK police

ROBOCOPS could be on patrol in Britain by 2040, it was claimed last night.

The Terminator-style machines, armed with non-lethal weapons, would have sensory devices to detect guns and knives — and "sniff" out bombs.

Artificial Intelligence Professor Noel Sharkey, of Sheffield University, predicted robotic traffic wardens may also be introduced to issue tickets and fines.

He said robocops could store data on millions of people, enabling them to identify and arrest wanted crooks. By 2084 they may be made with human-like skin.

Prof Sharkey's report was compiled to coincide with the DVD release of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
