For 17 years, the residents of southern Indiana have been fighting the extension of Interstate 69, and this summer, the Indiana Department of Transportation has started construction of the first two of 142 miles. I-69 is a piece of transportation infrastructure intended to fully actualize the effects of NAFTA and other free trade agreements. It will connect to the Plan-Puebla Panama in Mexico, a network of superhighways intended to displace hundreds of thousands of rural and indigenous Central American farmers and spread destructive capitalist "development." July 28, 2008 is a national day of mobilization against I-69. There are many corporations involved with the planning and construction of I-69 in Southern Indiana, Texas, and other states where construction has not started yet (Kentucky, Tennesee, Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana). And they have offices EVERYWHERE. These corporations include Gohmann Asphalt and Construction (based in Louisville), Michael J. Baker, Inc., Ozark Underground Laboratories, Cintra, DLZ, and Macquire Infrastructure Group.
