Upcoming Anarchist Events in Modesto, California
Anarchists in the Central Valley of California are staying busy! Recently, some crazy rich hatin' hooligans with Modesto Anarcho set up a discussion forum to talk about the ideas of the magazine and also to formulate ideas for anarchist projects and events. The first two meetings were a success, and have given us the chance to meet up with others who share similar ideas. On April 25th, anarchists from Sonora and Modesto converged in the foothills of California to throw a benefit show for Oaxacan anarchists, which raised close to $50. On May Day, anarchists associated with MA went out to various immigrant rights rallies and in Modesto someone from the group spoke before a crowd of about 300. The last couple of months, anarchists in Modesto have also been busy offering solidarity to the occupied indigenous university in Davis, known as DQ-University. In May, anarchists organized a solidarity Anarchist Cafe' featuring live bands, free food, and literature tables in downtown Modesto. Funds were raised, and some supplies were donated, and three people from DQ-U also showed up for the event. On May 17th, a benefit show was thrown featuring local political-punk act Butterface, and managed to raise close to $125! Modesto Anarcho editorial minions are still hard at work distributing copies of issue #7 throughout the seedy underbelly of Modesto, making sure those free boxes are stocked with insurrectionary reading material for anyone who desires.
