I know this is not related but check this out some one finally found an environmentally/economically decent way to make bio-fuels.

It's basically using an algae that produces around 50% of it's biomass as oil and it doubles as a possible waste treatment facility since septic waste is something algae craves.
The biggest shocker is that building the facilities to process the bio-fuel in the US is projected to less than half of what the us spends in a year on foreign oil. Though it does have to be diluted 10% with some sort of alcohol (not factored into pricing). But the paper gives a good idea of where this could come from.

Any concerned environmentalist should check this out since it would be slightly cleaner and eliminate much of the transportation and extraction related pollution to oil consumption. Interesting the paper was published quite a while ago and yet the US has tried instead focused on corn fuels. It's peculiar since this was much more compatible with the goal of freeing the US from foreign oil and the time frame of oil cost and supply. Additionally it would save over 100 billion from leaving the US economy each year. Though the technology would likely crush OPEC and deflate the US dollar world wide since it would no longer be circulated as an oil currency.

come to think of it the 100 billion a year not leaving the economy along with a spur of foreign investment likely to follow such an important development might actually compensate for such an economic eventuality.
