In the early hours of Monday, 11/20, in response to the Zapatista's call for solidarity actions for the struggle in Oaxaca, direct action was taken against the National Law Center for Inter-American Free Trade in Tucson, AZ. Windows were smashed, locks were glued, and messages were painted on the building reading "Viva Oaxaca" and "Free Trade = Death". Windows were smashed, locks were glued, and messages were painted on the building reading "Viva Oaxaca" and "Free Trade = Death". This institution plays a significant role in creating the neoliberal policies that destroy the lives, livelihoods, and landbases of people throughout Latin America. Last year, they hosted talks for the Andean Free Trade Agreement (AFTA), a plan that would further expand the devastation of NAFTA to South America. It is capitalist institutions such as this one who are ultimately responsible for the poverty and repressionthat the people of Oaxaca struggle against.
This action took place alongside the Zapatista's general strike in order to let the decision-makers who write these policies known that even though the frontlines are across the border in Oaxaca, they will not be safe in their comfy offices -- we will find them and hit them in the only place they understand -- in their pocketbooks.
Until everyone is free of economic exploitation and government control, we must resist in the belly of the beast.
!Viva Oaxaca!
!Viva las Zapatistas!
!Viva la resistencia!
