3 anarchists arrested at otherwise peaceful convention

BOSTON - (KRT) - With protest groups focusing on Republicans next month in New York, the Democrats' convention week wound down with just a minor closing-day flare-up between activists and police.

A collection of groups - anti-war, anti-Bush, anti-Kerry and anti-establishment - mostly have chanted and marched peacefully along streets where police at times far outnumbered them.

That overall calm was disrupted for a couple of hours Thursday, when an anarchist demonstration of about 400 people stopped near the FleetCenter and burned an effigy of Sen. John Kerry and a flag. There was a scuffle, and three men were arrested, police said.

Police in riot gear moved in, creating a barrier between the convention hall and a number of angry protesters who eventually left without further incident.

Organizers deemed the response needlessly heavy-handed.

"Things have gone pretty well - besides the police intimidation," said Elly Guillette, 27, of the anarchist group Bl(A)ck Tea Society.

Hundreds of thousands of protesters are expected in New York when Republicans send President Bush off for re-election.

The lack of protest oomph was pointedly on display Thursday morning when a half-dozen bandanna-masked youths sat in Copley Square pounding 5-gallon, plastic buckets - an anarchist trademark.

When they moved across the street to the steps of the Boston Public Library, an unarmed security guard shooed them away. A policeman watched with mild amusement as the drummers - quite lawfully - took the long route back to the park - via a crosswalk.

"We have trained two years for this, and they showed us nothing," said the officer, who declined to give his name. "I'm disappointed in the quality of anarchists we've got here."

\"We have trained two years for this, and they showed us nothing,\" said the officer, who declined to give his name. \"I\'m disappointed in the quality of anarchists we\'ve got here.\"

in other words, he wishes we were the monsters that they told him we would be.

Geeze, poor guy. We should have imported some Greek and German anarchists, and perhaps a smattering of South Korean students for him. They\'d have given him and entertaining challenge.

You know what, assholes like this cop piss me off, we should be more like south korean students, and greek and german anarchists, ,maybe people like him wouldnt complain, and we\'d maybe get more accomplished. Have there been any molotov attacks at protests in the past few years in the united states? In the past decade? Just wondering.

On the other hand, the fact that nothing has happened in Boston, might somewhat have a plus; two years of training, money, security advancements all for nothing.

Patience. That cop will have his hands full with dissent when the economy collapses in a few years. We as anarchists need to be ready by organizing in our communities and spreading information about anarchist ideas. The U.S. will get a taste of Argentina very soon.

Well, once again it\'s an effigy of John Kerry, rather than a two-faced effigy of Kerry and Bush, that was burned. Interesting.

The Black Tea Society did a superb job of getting the message out: that it is idiotic to support either the Democrats or the Republicans, because the only difference is that they serve different corporate masters. The week in Boston has been a huge success, because all of the necessary marches, protesting, and autonomous actions took place (as opposed to doing nothing). Apparently some of the so-called mainstream press does not understand this obvious point.

The 258 mile DNC2RNC radpeace march leaves Boston Common in a half hour...we\'ll see y\'all in NYC August 26th. Many of the marchers will need housing, a shower, food, and most importantly, your spiritual friendship. Stay in touch with us via cell phone (the cell phone number\'s in the recent archives/web site)...join with us enroute for as long as you like...give us a huge welcome when we arrive. one love...one heart

go burroughs-style on those cops...directional mikes playing recordings of rabbits being slaughtered mixed in with a drill sergeant yelling \"Attentshun!\" and \"At Ease!\" simultaneously...or something of that sort. Will S. started a riot with that precise formula...and cops were among those who went nuts.

The globopigs do most of our heavy lifting these days by shutting down stock markets, blocking SUV traffic, giving us massive amounts of free publicity, etc, etc. We can rope a dope them as long as we want from the sound of it. As far as molotovs go I did see one used at Quebec and then there were the police ones at Diaz school, I suspect any used in the last few years would have been spontaneous and by non anarchists...as the jail terms for lighting fires exceed muder by about a 3-1 margin, it\'s probably better to just murder a cop instead.

the mainstream press didn\'t cover everything. \"decentralized action\" didn\'t draw so many cameras and pens.
