Walking Tour of Anarchist-Connected Historical Sites in Boston

by Jerry Kaplan of the Anarchist Archives Project

Saturday, August 7th, 3:30 pm

Meet in the lobby of the Boston Park Plaza (Arlington St. side)

Rocking the Cradle of Liberty: Sacco, Vanzetti, and the Italian anarchists.

A walking tour of Anarchist-Connected Historical Sites in Boston.

"We do not argue about whether property is greedy or not, if masters are good or bad, if the state is paternal or despotic, if laws are just or unjust, if courts are fair or unfair, if police are merciful or brutal. When we talk about property, state, masters, government laws, courts and police, we say only that we don't want any of them."
Luigi Galleani

Radical ideas and activities have long been a part of Boston's rich history. Beginning in the 1890s Italian immigrants began arriving in Boston in great numbers. Among them were the anarchists. Committed to bringing about revolutionary social change, over the next thirty or so years these Italian radicals organized or participated in numerous cultural and political activities, from staging plays to strike actions, culminating in the arrest, trial, and execution of Sacco and Vanzetti. On this tour, which will begin at the Boston Common and make its way through Boston's North End, we will visit a number of sites and buildings connected to the Italian anarchists and the Sacco-Vanzetti Case. Included will be the building in which the office of the Sacco and Vanzetti Defense Committee was located, the site of a police station bombing anarchists were likely responsible for, and the route of Sacco and Vanzetti's funeral procession. Along the way we'll also stop at sites connected to some of the other anarchists who lived and worked in Boston.
